H2ydroGEM® Box
The second step of the project H2ydroGEM® has been the creation of H2ydroGEM ® Box, a module that produces hydrogen through the electrolysis of water.
The module is able of storing electrical energy using hydrogen as a carrier. A fuel cell integrated in H2ydroGEM® Box allows to convert and to provide electricity when requested or in case of blackouts.
How it works
H2ydroGEM Box® contains an electrolyzer that produces hydrogen in a totally clean way, starting just from the water. A special booster appropriately increases the pressure, so that it can be conveniently stored in special tanks that are normally placed outside the building.
H2ydroGEM® Box includes a fuel cell that converts the stored hydrogen into electricity. The cell is characterized by a rapid start-up and the ability to adapt to the electric load the supplied power.
H2ydroGEM Box® has a special heat exchanger that allows to keep the temperature of the components at the optimal operative value. An advantageous alternative is, however, the possibility to recover this heat with the result of increasing the efficiency of the whole system. The heat recovery, or the heat disposal, can take place during the production of hydrogen or the functioning of the cell.
H2ydroGEM® Box is suitable for operation in conjunction with an H2ydroGEM® burner. This will also offer the option of converting the thermal energy stored in the form of hydrogen. H2ydroGEM® Box can also be combined in those systems of power generation based on renewables energies with discontinuous availability, such as solar or wind power, to store the energy produced.
The use of the system results in a completely zero-emission cycle, since hydrogen is generated from water and, through the fuel cell, the recombination of hydrogen in water takes place with no harmful emissions.
