Giacomini contributed to the development of the new Dementia Care Unit at Dorothy Patterson Hospital in Walsall, a strategically important project for the local healthcare system. The project was designed to meet the needs of an increasingly aging population and to provide dedicated environments for specialized and continuous care.
The new facility, currently under construction adjacent to Walsall Manor Hospital, represents a significant investment in local healthcare and is a concrete example of how reliable and high-performance building systems can support the quality of patient care.
Giacomini’s Contribution
As part of this project, Giacomini supplied a range of building system solutions designed to ensure energy efficiency, hydraulic control, and long-term reliability – all fundamental elements in a healthcare facility operating 24/7.
Our technologies were specifically selected to support the correct functioning of heating and distribution systems, ensuring constant comfort, ease of adjustment, and reduced management costs.
In particular, Giacomini provided:
Ball valves, used for safe and reliable circuit isolation, essential for maintenance and plant management with full safety.
Dynamic balancing valves, designed to automatically maintain correct flow rates within the system even under variable loads. This technology helps optimize system performance, enhance environmental comfort, and reduce energy waste.
Hydraulic control and regulation components, engineered to ensure operational stability, efficiency, and long service life in complex applications such as healthcare facilities.
Technology at the Service of Comfort and Care
In a dementia care environment, thermal comfort and system reliability play a central role. Giacomini solutions help create stable and comfortable indoor spaces, minimizing temperature fluctuations and system noise, benefiting both patients and healthcare staff.
The use of dynamic balancing systems also simplifies commissioning and helps maintain performance over time, reducing the need for corrective interventions and improving overall building efficiency.
Collaboration and Project Delivery
The project was developed in collaboration with Dodd Group, the mechanical contractor responsible for the installation of the systems, and Kier Group, responsible for constructing the building on behalf of the Black Country NHS Trust. This synergy between all stakeholders enabled the effective integration of Giacomini solutions within a complex and highly specialized healthcare project.
Looking Ahead
The new Dementia Care Unit at Dorothy Patterson Hospital is a concrete example of Giacomini’s commitment to supporting high-value healthcare projects, bringing our expertise to facilities that improve people’s quality of life.
For us, this project is not only a technical reference but also a demonstration of how innovation, reliability, and attention to well-being can translate into building system solutions that truly make a difference in the healthcare sector.
