“Glimpses of Water, Wings of Air”: Educating for Change Through Nature
Education is one of the settings where the values that shape the growth of individuals and communities take form. It is precisely from this conviction that “Glimpses of Water, Wings of Air” was born—the new educational project developed at Nido-Scuola Giacomini: a journey that guides children in discovering nature, change, and sustainability, transforming everyday experiences into opportunities for observation, awareness, and growth.
At the heart of the project is the dragonfly, a symbol of transformation, lightness, and balance, chosen as the guide for a journey that connects the natural world with the values that inspire Giacomini’s daily commitment to a more sustainable future.
The project begins with the element of water, understood as the source of life and a space for learning. Children explore natural environments such as ponds and ecosystems, engaging with the concepts of biodiversity, balance, and interrelationships, and coming to understand the value of fragility and the interdependence among the elements.
Through observing the dragonfly’s life cycle, the program introduces the theme of metamorphosis, allowing children to approach change as a natural process involving growth, evolution, and transformation. This process is accompanied by dynamic language, based on actions and verbs that describe becoming: to open, to change, to transform, to be reborn.
The transition to the element of air broadens the experience, introducing the concept of lightness not as fragility, but as the capacity for adaptation and awareness. Through hands-on and creative activities, children make invisible phenomena visible, experimenting with movement, balance, and form.
Over the course of the project, a shared vocabulary emerges that unites education and sustainability, grounded in values such as care, transparency, attention, kindness, and protection of fragility. These words become tools for interpreting reality and developing greater environmental awareness.
“Glimpses of Water, Wings of Air” thus serves as a bridge between schools and businesses, fostering a shared vision rooted in responsibility, balance, and the capacity to evolve. This journey demonstrates how growth—both individual and organizational—can develop in harmony with the environment, generating value through mindful relationships and processes of change.
For Giacomini, educating students to respect nature also means contributing to the creation of a culture of sustainability that originates with people and develops, day by day, through small gestures, new awareness, and a shared vision of the future.
